Press Release

Eurelectric partners with Smart Grids Summit 2009
The Smart Grids Summit 2009, taking place on the 14th-15th September 2009 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, is partnering with Eurelectric, the umbrella industry body for the electrical power industry in Europe.
Upgrading the current European electricity grid with ‘smarter’ technologies is one of the key priorities for Eurelectric. This was stated in a recent company report that sets out the “state of play on smart grids”. It’s also a hot topic around the world, even President Barack Obama asked the United States Congress "to act without delay" to pass legislation that included doubling alternative energy production in the next three years and building a new electricity "smart grid".
Smart Grids 2009 will happen during this key time, and it’s the must attend conference and expo for anyone involved with future projects in electricity transmission and distribution. With top experts detailing practical advice and best practice like, amongst others, Paola Petroni, Vice President, Infrastructure and Networks Division at Enel Distribuzione SpA, Jose Arrojo de Lamo, Technology and Innovation Director at ENDESA and Tomasz Kowalak, Director of Tariffs Department at URE, Smart Grids provides a unique marketplace for industry practitioners to meet and discuss the formation of the European smart grid infrastructure.
Dedicated streams are focusing on - amongst others - projects helping to interconnect and complete the smart grid, future scenarios for electricity networks – the view of the grid in 2020, formation of an intuitive and intelligent multi terminal grid infrastructure, and regulation and liberalisation to form one European electricity market.
Andrew Barrett, Commercial Director, WTG Energy, comments: “Smart Grids is the topic of the moment in the international electric power industry. We’re proud to be partnering with Eurelectric on our event Smart Grids Summit 2009, and with a very strong programme and a range of experts that will discuss the Smart Grids current challenges, the Summit sets to be a key must-attend event that will bring together the major players in the industry and I’m really looking forward to the event.”
