José has been working in the Electrical Sector for the last 20 years and is now in charge of Technology and Innovation activities at Endesa Group, as CTO. He is also CEO of the R&D afilliate Endesa Network Factory, which is the SmartGrid company of Endesa. Formerly his ENDESA’s responsabilities he worked 3 years at ABB-Cidespa 5 years at the National Institute of Industry, and also he is Associate Professor at Comillas University, where he has been teaching Electrical Systems for 10 years. Jose Arrojo is the ENDESA’s representative at several institutions and technology platforms as UNESA, Engineers Royal Academy, Spanish Platform for Intelligent Grids, Spanish Club of Energy and MIT Liaison Program. Member of international jury for ALTRAN Prizes and co-autor of the book “Energy: the future technologies” (Spanish Club of Energy). He is member of the Boards of DS2 (Design of Systems on Silicon) and SADIEL (a Spanish TIC company), Technical Secretariat of Spanish Platform for Intelligent Grids and Chairman of Spanish Platform for Energy Efficiency.
Paola Petroni is a vice president at ENEL in Rome. ENEL is the principal electricity operator in Italy with the leading position in the generation, distribution and sale of electricity, and with a strong presence in the gas market. Responsible for the research and development of new technologies, she has directed the implementation of the information technology system for the “Enel smart meter project”, one of the most innovative applications in the energy sector. In Italy, more than 30 millions of meters have been replaced in the last six years and now they are remotely controlled and read. Prior to joining Enel, Ms Petroni was responsible for the development of the ICT System for the Energy Exchange in Italy Involved with energy management, automation and control systems for over 25 years, she is responsible for the “Smart Grid” research and development activities in Enel, leading, as Project Coordinator, the European Commission Project ADDRESS (FP7
Dave Sowden is an experienced director in regulatory and public affairs with close to 20 years’ experience in the energy industry and an track record in obtaining changes in UK and EU legislation and regulation. He is a member of the Renewables Advisory Board, and has had a pivotal role across a number of years in shaping key aspects of UK energy policy, especially in the microgeneration sector. Dave began his career in electrical engineering and first moved into Public Affairs while working for the National Grid. Having gained extensive experience of both UK and EU energy policy in a number of roles, Dave is now Managing Director of well-established consultancy firm, JDS Consulting Associates Ltd, Chief Executive of the Micropower Council, an advocacy organisation for the microgeneration industry, and Executive Adviser to Micropower Europe, a similar organisation recently established in Brussels.
Inge Wijgerse is an innovation specialist in intelligent network systems. Her work consists of finding solutions for the future challenges DSO’s will face - including decentralised generation, heat pumps and electrical vehicles. Also she is participant in several workgroups at national level. Inge is a master in Sustainable Energy Technology and graduated at the Technical University of Eindhoven. She is an innovator, working within both technical engineering and public society projects.
Gunnar Lorenz is Head of Unit - Networks at EURELECTRIC, the European electricity industry association. He is leads a team managing the Network Committee and its groups within the EURELECTRIC Secretariat. The focus of EURELECTRIC's Networks Committee is to represent European DSOs with one voice towards European Institutions and stakeholders. Several international working groups support the Committee on issues such as Smart Grids, Electric Vehicles, Network Regulation, Network Customers, Transmission and others.
Andrew Hiorns has worked in the electricity supply industry for over 30 years, with the last 10 years working in transmission planning within National Grid. He is presently the System Development Manager where he is responsible for the development of the transmission system in England and Wales. In undertaking this task, Andrew is responsible for evaluating the implication of any generator connecting to the transmission system and determining the appropriate reinforcements required to accommodate the generation.
Erik Hauptmeier

Erik Hauptmeier joined RWE from Infraserv GmbH in 2009 and is responsible for the technical assessment, supervision of corporate R&D projects and the external cooperation with other companies and institutes. After studying electrical engineering Erik undertook many research project into energy systems and energy economics at the University of Dortmund and at ZEDO e.V.
David Trebolle has been working in the Electrical Sector for the last 10 years and is currently head of “Real time and back office operation systems and optimization in operation” at Gas Natural Fenosa company. From 2001 to 2002 he worked as a planning engineer at the control room centre of National Grid Company in Wokingham, United Kingdom. David is an Electrical Engineer, Advanced Studies Diploma and Master in Economics and Regulatory Framework of the electrical business at Pontificia Comillas University. Now he is an Associate Professor at Master EMIN ““Economics and Management on Network Industries “ in Pontificia Comillas University, teaching Smartgrids and Operation and Planning in distribution companies. David has participated in several European Smartgrid projects like GAD, DG-GRID, Improgres and HIPERDNO.
Klaus Baggesen Hilger is Senior Innovation Manager at the Innovation Centre of Group R&D, DONG Energy. He has been with DONG Energy since 2003 working with business development and RD&D. Currently, he is responsible for the strategies and implementation plans for integrating large scale renewable wind into the Smart Grid. In 2010, he won the talent award of the Danish Wind Industry Association. Klaus was co-creator of the EUFP7 project TWENTIES running from 2010-2014 involving DONG Energy in the main demonstration on balancing local generation and flexible loads together with intermittent wind energy and development of energy management solutions for handling storm passages over the Danish wind farms. In 2009, Klaus was reviewer of the EU project EUDEEP on integration of Distributed Energy Resources into today's electrical system. Klaus has a Ph.D. in applied statistics and a Master's degree in applied physics. He has been a visiting scholar at Stanford University and Oxford University and previously worked as external lecturer and assistant professor at the Technical University of Denmark.
Aaron has over 15 years of experience in leading strategic projects and products to various vertical markets. As the Strategic Director for Smart Grid strategy Aaron has been focused on how to deliver Smart Grid solutions that will help utilities gain a jump start on delivering real value for Smart Grid. Aaron’s experience goes beyond discussions and theory as he lead the effort for Ventyx on the SmartGridCity™ implementation. As the Ventyx program manager of SmartGridCity™, Aaron championed the solutions for Distributed Energy Resources (DER) & Demand Response (DR) business and architectural designs to support the rollout to 4,000,000 customers, as well as determining how to integrate new concepts such as Virtual Power Plants, increasing consistency for Demand Response and Pricing programs and utilizing DR for distribution purposes. As well, Aaron had the privilege to represent Xcel Energy as the Release 3 manager for the final delivery of SmartGridCity™. This final release oversaw the implementation of Outage/Fault Management, Visualization, DER/DR and Substation Automation.

Holger Lenz works as Director Business Development in the Strategy & Marketing department of Cinterion Wireless Modules. His area of responsibilities comprises managing the strategic market segments ITS / Automotive Aftermarket and e-Mobility as well as developing and managing a strong network of business partners in these strategic areas. The ITS / Automotive Aftermarket segment focus on electronic tolling, insurance telematics, traffic telematics, stolen vehicle recovery as well as tracking and fleet management applications. In his former position as Director of Portfolio & Innovations at Cinterion Wireless Modules he was responsible for developing the portfolio strategy for Cinterion Wireless Modules’ M2M module products and the applications business as well as driving of new product innovations. Mr. Lenz joined Siemens AG in 1999 and held several positions in the Siemens Information and Communication Networks group. As Senior Business Consultant for IT & Network Security, he worked for telecom carriers and enterprise customers. Before joining Wireless Modules in 2006, Mr. Lenz spent several years with Siemens Communications’ Enterprise Systems division, serving as Product Manager for Smart Card Products.
Hannes Rüttinger studied at the Technical University of Ilmenau, Germany and received his diploma degree in electrical engineering in 2005. Since January 2007 he is a scientific staff member at the Fraunhofer Application Center System Technology at Ilmenau. As a project manager he is responsible of the sub project “Smart distribution grids” at the project eTelligence and in addition he is person in charge for the ICT-Energy-Lab. His special fields of interests include electric grid protection, power system control and energy markets.
